Chengdu-based Derek Sandhaus, author of baijiu history and flavour blog 300 Shots at Greatness, is one of the few living Western amateur baijiu experts still capable of human speech. He has offered to introduce FCC members to the history of the liquor, how it is made, Western reactions to it through the ages, and most importantly, how to discriminate between good baijiu and bad, bad, bad baijiu. The event will include a talk and an optional tasting of a selection of brands Sandhaus believes make the grade. Either way, invaluable training for those on the Chinese banquet circuit and a fascinating subject.

In addition to a complementary baijiu tasting courtesy of the board, selected byDerek, Yuan is also offering craft cocktails – including a baijiu-based drink – at happy hour prices.
