More than half a billion people in China use the Internet, and more than a billion use a mobile phone. They’re all connected to China’s social media platforms, which altogether create the largest news wire the world has ever seen. In this training session, Jeremy Goldkorn will offer a practical guide to the various websites and services that comprise Chinese social media, including Sina Weibo, WeChat, Renren, Douban and Youku etc. He’ll teach you how to best use them to keep abreast of chatter and trends and to gather information about breaking news for the purposes of journalistic, academic or business research.

About the speaker:

Jeremy Goldkorn has lived in China since 1995. In 2003, he founded Danwei.com, a popular website about Chinese media and Internet that evolved into a research firm. Danwei was acquired by the Financial Times in early 2013. Jeremy remains the director of Danwei, whose main business is researching the Chinese Internet, media and government publications to help companies and funds make better decisions about their brands and investments in China.
