About the Speakers:
Having grown up in the Napa Valley, California, David participated in all aspects of his family’s winery, Duckhorn Vineyards. David graduated with a BS in Agricultural Finance from California State University in Fresno, in 1991, after which he spent the next three years as an Assistant Vice-President at Bank of America. David continued his education and in 1996 earned his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2000, David, as Controller, assisted in taking a technologycompany, Capstone Turbine, public. In 2002, David returned to the Napa Valley and acquired an interest in a small winery. During the next four years, he was responsible for the day to dayoperations of the winery. With additional coursework at theUniversity of California at Davis, David took his first foray into hands-on winemaking. In 2005, the opportunity to bring wines to China led to him overseeing the operations of Via Pacifica Selections and, in late-2007, structured a buyout of the foundersto assume control. Today, Via Pacifica Selections is a vertically integrated wine company devoted to the long-term production, importation and distribution of wines, primarily from California. With David’s background from the Napa Valley, Via Pacifica Selections has access to some of the most highly acclaimed wine brands from the state and has been using these brands to develop a distribution platform in greater China. Since 2008, when Via Pacifica Selections opened its first office in Shanghai, China, theCompany has seen a positive response to California wine, and the company now has additional offices in Beijing, Chengdu,Ningbo, Lanzhou, Hong Kong and Macau.
Andrea Mingfai Chu:
Andrea Mingfai Chu has been the publisher of Shuyi Publishing (www.shuyipublishing.com) since 2005. She has published important books for Masters of Wine, e.g., Jancis Robinson, Hugh Johnson, Jeannie Cho Lee, and renowned architects and designers such as Paul Andreu, Thom Mayne, Yoo Studio. Formerly a U.S.-certified CPA, financial analyst and US diplomat, Andrea returned to her hometown, Shanghai, as the International Director of Bertelsmann Asia Publishing in 2002. Andrea studied at Georgetown University and Trinity College in the United States, and has dual degrees in Accounting and Music. Besides being a busy publisher, Andrea is also actively writing about wine regions she has visited around the world for Chinese lifestyle magazines. Andrea also authored Modern Shanghai Vintage Houses. The book was later published in English，French and Spanish titled Shanghai interiors.
Logan R. Brouse is a seasoned bartender from San Francisco, California. He’s been making drinks and delighting crowds for over 10 years and he’s brought his passion for fine drinks and his love of his booze to Shanghai for the last five years. Currently he owns Logan’s Punch, Shanghai’s first Punch bar. Through cocktails, his aim is to inspire and excite those around him with the wonderful world of spirits.
