Carlos Barria, a staff photographer for Thomson Reuters, is finishing up a five-year posting in Shanghai. He’ll provide a retrospective of his work, talk about covering China from the hinterlands of far west region of Xinjiang to the megacities of the coast, and offer tips on framing, shot setup, and anything else you might need to know to take successful photos. Q&A to follow.

About the Speaker:
Reuters photographer Carlos Barria has been based in Shanghai for almost five years. During his career he has covered a variety of current events, including general news, sports, politics, and natural disasters around China, the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. His assignments have included the devastation from Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Japan, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, U.S. elections, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the border conflict between Lebanon and Israel. He has also covered three World Cups and the Olympic Games in Greece, China and Russia. He will be leaving China this month to take up a new posting covering the White House in Washington D.C.
