European economies continue to struggle to emerge from the crisis but there is no evidence yet of a sustained recovery. Former two-time Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, under whose leadership the European Union saw its largest expansion and accepted the Euro, will explore why recovery remains elusive.
He will also touch on issues such as the implications for China, now the EU’s 2nd largest trading partner behind the United States while the EU is China’s biggest trading partner.
Prof. Prodi is Sino-Europe Dialogue Chair at CEIBS. He was a visiting professor at Harvard University and at the Stanford Research Institute as early as 1974. More recently in 2010, he became the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for the Sahel Zone in Africa to assist in bringing peace to this region.
