English-language website Sixth Tone is looking for right candidates to join their editorial team in Shanghai. Details are as follow:

News Writer

News writer will cover breaking national news in China. Candidate should have at least one year’s experience in a newsroom, and familiarity with the fast pace of online journalism. The ideal person will be ready to pitch ideas on a daily basis, conduct rapid original reporting, and develop longer length news features. A native-level standard of English, with a high standard of reading in Chinese are essential.

Business and Technology Researcher

Business and Technology Researcher will work on breaking news and feature stories in this subject field in China. Ideal candidates will have experience in a newsroom, or a related environment, and be familiar with the fast pace of online journalism.

Formal journalistic experience or qualifications are not required, but those with such experience will be given special consideration. Candidates will be expected to present a short portfolio of previous work, preferably related to China. A native-level standard of Chinese, with a high standard of reading and writing in English are essential.

Commentaries Editor

Commentaries Editor should have a broad understanding of China and the country’s contemporary social and cultural landscape, and be passionate about bringing new commentators to the site. The Editor should have a high level of language proficiency in Chinese and English, strong writing and editing skills, and be a strong communicator, capable of managing a large network of writers.

Copy Editor

Copy Editor is responsible for ensuring the linguistic correctness and stylistic consistency of all published material. The candidate should have a native-speaker level grasp of the English language and at least one year’s experience in copy editing within a media environment. He / She should have a strong grasp of the editorial stance and stylistic approach of the site and will be expected to take an active interest in its areas of research. The ideal candidate will already have some understanding of contemporary Chinese society and culture. Candidate must be trustworthy and proactive. The person must be able to work well in a team and be able to operate efficiently under tight deadlines.
