Few people outside of China have even heard of it, but China Development Bank may be the world’s most powerful financial institution in the world, argue award-winning Bloomberg News reporters Henry Sanderson and Michael Forsythe. The bank, led for the past 15 years by Chen Yuan, son of one of the PRC’s founding fathers, is the enabler of the government’s policies both at home and abroad, having invented the system of local finance that helped China weather the global financial crisis and lending billions of dollars in Latin America, Africa and Asia to power the global expansion of China’s biggest companies and to secure energy supplies.
