China has the biggest LGBT community in the world, estimated at somewhere between 40 million and 70 million people – not only representing a political force but also massive target market. But with most of them still in the closet, and huge family pressure for many young people to get married, how easy is it really to be openly gay and what are the main obstacles?
A new report is the largest and most comprehensive ever carried out into this community in China, covering everything from marriage intentions, LGBT media, business opportunities, surrogacy, and coming out to colleagues and family. Sammy Wu, founder of the L, a lesbian app with over two million members, and Steven Paul Bielinski , founder of WorkForLGBT, will discuss the findings of the report, and the future of the gay community in China.
