About the speaker:
Ben Wood came to China 16 years ago to help create Xintiandi for Hong Kong real estate developer Vincent Lo. Before coming to China, Ben had offices in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Miami. His last project in the U.S. was the New Soldier Field, Home of the Chicago Bears on the Lakefront. He designed a new Olympic Stadium that helped win Chicago the USOC Bid City designation for the 2016 Olympics. Ben now makes Shanghai his home and heads up Studio Shanghai, an architecture and design practice with work in almost every major city in China. A current project nearing completion is the Studio’s Hongqiao Commercial Hub, which adjoins the new Hongqiao Train Station and will have over 275,000 square meters of retail, dining, entertainment, office and hotel space. In a design practice that is now more than three decades old, Ben has created urban entertainment centers that attract over one million visitors each day. Ben is a graduate of the M.I.T.’s School of Architecture. He is a former jet fighter pilot for the USAF. He has a daughter living in Hong Kong and a son in Germany.
